Getting to know Dr. Angela Flanagan

Life can feel overwhelming when you’re struggling with intense emotions, difficult relationships, or persistent unhelpful thoughts. You might find yourself asking: ‘Why do I keep having the same problems?’ or ‘How can I feel more in control of my life?’ I believe that lasting change happens when we understand the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors – and learn practical skills to create the life we want.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our work together, I’ll help you identify the patterns that aren’t serving you and develop concrete tools to navigate life’s challenges more effectively. Drawing mainly from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we’ll focus on building skills in four key areas: managing intense emotions, improving relationships, staying present in difficult moments, and changing unhelpful thought patterns.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe therapy works best when it’s both supportive and practical. You’ll leave each session with specific strategies you can use right away – whether that’s a breathing technique for anxiety, a way to communicate your needs more clearly, or a method for challenging self-critical thoughts. We’ll celebrate your progress while honestly addressing the areas where growth is needed. My approach is warm, direct, and collaborative. I see you as the expert on your own life, while I provide the roadmap and tools for change. Together, we’ll work toward helping you feel more confident, emotionally balanced, and capable of creating meaningful relationships and experiences. Change is possible, and it starts with taking that first step.

I am an In-Network provider with Northwell Direct Tier 1 plans. We provide out-of-network billing support for reimbursement for all other clients. If we are not in-network with your plan we will work to get you significant reimbursement for the cost of your sessions. We submit claims on behalf of our patients so that you don’t have to deal with your insurance company. Here’s how works. Before you start therapy we will collect your insurance information, check your insurance benefits, provide you with an estimate of those benefits, and then allow you to make the most educated decision possible about your investment in therapy. If you decide to work with us, we will submit your insurance claims every week and give you access to the portal to check the status of the reimbursements. It is our goal to always remain transparent and to make the process of insurance reimbursements as clear as possible.
