“A very no-nonsense straight to the point kind of guy. He allows sufficient time to sulk and wallow so as to not ignore the emotions, but also offers an alternative viewpoint to ensure positive growth. He really wants to help you figure out what you could have done differently so your stressors don't become chronic. My fiance and I have improved our communication tremendously since seeing him and definitely credit him with helping us move toward our goal of having a balanced and fulfilling marriage and setting reasonable expectations. ”

“There was a misunderstanding in our first appointment. He wasn’t expecting me. But, after a few minutes he made time for me and I’ve been seeing him weekly since. I’m happy that it has worked out. He has helped me move forward in my life.”

Dr Protter has really helped me get perspective on a variety of things that were holding me back in my life - maladaptive behaviors and thought patterns that were making me depressed, anxious, hurting my self-esteem, and leaving me in need of an emotional rescue. I originally went to him two years ago seeking his guidance on an acute relationship issue (which I now realize was a non-issue, thanks to him!), and his practical perspective, sincere lack of judgment and candid questions was really the wake-up call I needed at the time. Since then, he not only has helped me get over the original situation I went to him for, but also helped me overcome and change my job/career situation, financial situation, multiple non-starter relationships, the death of my mother, and many other important issues. He helped me gain perspective in areas I really needed it, without pushing me or labeling me in any way. He really has been a mirror and reflected things back at me, and on top of that he will occasionally say something that really sticks with me and fundamentally shifts my worldview. For example, at one point I was feeling really down on myself and depressed about the state of my life and he held up the mirror and helped me realize—with even a few simple words, and without judgment—how fortunate I truly am. That moment in our therapy was really the beginning of me turning everything around. Since then, I have left my job, started my own business, and met the love of my life - in fact, now we are engaged. In fact, I credit him with helping me see early on that the person that I am now engaged to was the good apple in an endless sea of bad ones. I have worked with Dr Protter regularly for over 2 years now and it’s the best decision I have ever made for my mental health as well as my life as a whole. To Dr Protter: Thank you very much for being so patient with me and helping me get to where I am today.

Dr. Protter interrupted me a few times and has a brusque bedside manner. I know that's been mentioned in previous reviews before. However he is also very honest, which can be positive or negative depending on your treatment goals.

Very professional, insightful & helpful.
Dr. Protter was very professional. Listened to my needs, concerns and goals for treatment. I appreciated his transparency and realistic approach in achieving my asks. I look forward to working with him. Having a HCP that is relatable in therapy is essential to a successful session and ongoing patient/physician relationship.

I didn't feel like he listened to me at all. He would talk over me, not let me finish my sentences, and made me feel like I had to defend myself. Instead of understanding my work-related anxiety, he put the blame on me for being mistreated by my supervisor. That was really uncomfortable.
He saw me immediately. Felt comfortable in his presence. The process was interactive and he was not judgemental and neutral throughout the session. I would recommend him.
