Getting to know Carlie Dackson

Do you find yourself striving for perfection but never feeling satisfied? Do you worry about small things and big things even when you don't want to? Have you noticed your feelings can shift quickly to anger, sadness, and worry? I work with children, adolescents, and young adults who face a variety of challenges, including perfectionism, anxiety, mood dysregulation, ADHD, and other common concerns. With a Master's in School Counseling from Fairfield University, I offer a supportive, warm, and solution-focused space to help clients regain a sense of control over their lives and reduce symptoms.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use several therapies including DBT, CBT and problem solving to help my clients develop coping skills, organize their goals and harness their strengths. I have over twenty years of experience as a school teacher and counselor which allows me to help clients with school challenges and provide support surrounding educational planning (504, IEPs etc.)

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You and I will choose which therapy style we think will fit best after our first meeting. Often times I use CBT or DBT with clients and incorporate mindfulness strategies. Our sessions will always look different but at the end of the session I will often give you something to work on at home such as an exercise to practice to help calm down or just noticing your feelings that week. I work with clients who may have anxiety, perfectionism, or emotion dysregulation. We will start therapy by exploring different ways these challenges may impact your day to day life including school, friendships, and family. We will focus on the most pressing issue first, and come up with a strategy to improve your ability to manage this particular challenge-often seeing relief in the first month.
