What should a new client know about working with you?

I view medication as providing a window in which to make cognitive changes towards a worthy mind that works for you; one that is connected to an inner vision of oneself. When we work with a client, our first priority is to be curious and understand the mind before us. We believe that therapy is simply a series of realizations about oneself. After which, one can decide how they would like to facilitate the life they envision for themselves Medication acts like a life jacket; it can keep you from drowning you your negative cognitions. But once you're treading water, therapy is what teaches you how to swim. Medication is the beginning, not the goal. In my practice we see medication as a window and an opportunity. Once the medication work has begun, therapy helps you sustain a new thought environment with a clearer mind. There is no “happy pill”, only a willingness to work towards happiness. That’s what we are honored to help our clients move toward. In my practice, we very much lean into a collaborative care model. WorthyMind Psychiatry practice has 3 therapists, a life coach, as well as a very skilled psychiatric nurse practitioner. Working within a team ensures the highest level of care for each client and multiple perspectives ensures nothing is missed. This really works to accelerate the process of moving clients from stable to thriving. We really excited about the work that we do. It's the reason we are here. It's a joy to serve in a way that aligns with our values.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Medication and therapy work together. Our therapists and life coach collaborate closely with our medication prescribers (psychiatrist and psychNP) Medication The initial session is a full psychiatric evaluation, even if you want to do only therapy. We always do a full assessment of a client's baseline and use quantitative surveys to track progress. We will discuss you past medical history, family history, psychiatric history, as well as your goals of care. At the end of that first session, we will discuss the diagnosis and if medication would be helpful. If yes, we will then discuss the risks and benefits of each options and collaborate on plan moving forward. We do not have start medication at the first visit, it's okay to discuss further and have all your concerns addressed. When do start a medication, we typically start at half of the lowest dose to see how your body does on the medication before we move further. This allows us to stop any medication that isn't a good fit quickly with minimal side effects, if any. At the early stage, communication is key. You will have close follow up when starting any new medication to facilitate this progress; you are the expert on you so the date you provide on how you feel is pivotal to the process. ADHD - we offer NeuroCognitive testing for ADHD. This is an objective series of exercises that tests for simple attention, complex attention, executive function and Cognitive flexibility. Therapy We have 3 therapists in the practice. We focus on Cognitive Behavioral therapy. (CBT), Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Assertive and commitment therapy, Internal Family systems and Attachment (Interpersonal) Issues. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) In the right setting with proper guidance, Ketamine offers a new way to expand psychotherapy in treating mood, and anxiety disorders. We offer KAP - at home sessions via Lozenges as well as Spravato (in - office treatment).
