Getting to know Dr. Christina Carter

Get unstuck! People sometimes come to therapy confused about exactly what is wrong-they just know they feel entrenched and unable to budge from their current "stuck" place. Therapy can help you understand and tackle symptoms and problematic patterns so that you can get back on track to a more fulfilling life. For those starting with a specific problem already in mind, I have experience with both symptom-focused (aka CBT) treatments for problems like OCD and panic attacks, as well as treatments focused on challenging chronic patterns behind issues like depression, low self-esteem, procrastination, dysfunctional relationships, disordered eating, and addictions. My approach integrates behavioral strategies to help build more flexible coping, as well as other techniques that help you recognize and challenge problematic patterns connected with your symptoms. I also integrate mindfulness techniques when appropriate to enhance your ability to manage difficult feelings and experiences. The end goal of therapy is to help you uncover your own expert, intuitive knowledge of yourself while improving your ability to cope with whatever life throws at you. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from New York University and earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, Austin. **PLEASE NOTE** I am not in network with any plans, but I provide a monthly superbill that you can submit for reimbursement if you have out-of-network coverage. Prior to your appointment, you must respond to my welcome email and schedule/complete a free 30-minute phone consult.
