Dr. Diana Chen, PhD

Psychologist
71 Park Ave, Ste 1C, New York, NY
I am a licensed clinical psychologist currently in private practice in NYC. I have enjoyed a distinguished career in community mental health for over 20 years and am now returning to my first love—working as a therapist in the private sector. My own personal background of growing up in NYC and being raised by immigrant parents influenced my chosen career path in psychology. I wanted a profession that helps people. By forging a nontraditional path that confronts the common stigma against mental health, I offer shared experiences in an environment that allows people to voice their thoughts and feelings openly without fear of disapproval or rejection. I am trained in numerous models of care and hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University. I uphold the importance of using an integrative approach, tailoring treatment interventions based on each client's needs. I provide a safe space to work collaboratively on any issue, including cultural identity, acculturation, intergenerational conflict, job stress, and relationship dissatisfaction. I also have expertise working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, bereavement, mood disorders, and borderline personality disorder. I believe we all have the power to transform life’s challenges and difficulties into opportunities for healing. You are not alone; with the help of a warm, nonjudgmental therapist, you can achieve your goals.

I believe we all have the power to transform life’s challenges and difficulties into opportunities for healing. You are not alone; with the help of a warm, nonjudgmental therapist, you can achieve your goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a warm, empathic, and nonjudgmental therapist whom you will find easy to talk to and share your feelings and problems. In addition to getting support in therapy on finding relief of your symptoms, you can also gain a deeper awareness of yourself, and a better understanding of your pattern of relating to others and the world. I believe we all have the power to overcome and transform life's challenges and difficulties into opportunities for healing. We all can be helped to get unstuck and to move forward to live our best life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, my focus is to get to know you, your strength, vulnerabilities and pain, and together we will set clear individualized goals for healing. I often use a combination of Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies for good formulation and treatment planning and may employ a variety of different interventions to help you get better. If you are interested in starting therapy with me, you can check on calendar for availability and send an appointment request. I offer in person or on line appointments. Each session is 50 mins for a charge of $200. For out of pocket I am open to discuss a lower fee based on sliding scale. I am currently working out of network and can assist if you consider reimbursement through your PPO plan. Payment can be made by cash, check, or credit card. Appointment cancellation policy requires cancelling via email 24 hours before appointment to avoid penalty of being charged.
