About Dominic Veliz

Dominic Veliz’s passion for physical therapy grew from a lifelong love of sport and curiosity about the human body. After playing baseball and football and experiencing sports injuries himself, he saw firsthand the impact physical therapy can have on recovery. While in college, he worked as an equipment manager for a Division I football team, where he shadowed athletic training and strength and conditioning staffs, confirming his desire to help athletes return to sport safely and confidently. Dominic earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware and completed a sports physical therapy residency, earning his Sports Clinical Specialist certification. His residency included more than 200 hours of field coverage across rugby, football, ice hockey, field hockey, volleyball, soccer, baseball, ultimate frisbee, and crew. He has also completed coursework in dry needling. Dominic has extensive experience treating post-operative conditions, including ACL reconstruction, total knee, shoulder and hip replacements, Achilles tendon repairs, rotator cuff repairs, thoracic and lumbar fusions, and other upper and lower extremity procedures. He has provided sideline coverage for high schools in Alexandria and Fairfax County and George Mason University. At the University of Delaware, Dominic also worked alongside Dr. Karin Silbernagel on research involving ultrasound imaging and performance testing for Achilles tendon injuries, including tendinopathy and post-operative repairs. Dominic enjoys treating athletes of all levels, with a particular interest in overhead athletes, including baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball players. His residency training, post-operative experience, field coverage, and research background allow him to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care. He has been a member of the APTA and its Sports Section since 2023.
