Getting to know Eugene Kim

A therapist doesn’t just become a therapist immediately. Often, personal experiences and encounters with struggling mental health solidify the decision to pursue this path. From an early age, I witnessed the profound impact that mental health challenges can have on individuals and their loved ones. The need for compassionate support and guidance during these times of distress gave me a strong calling to contribute to the field of mental health. This calling led me to pursue a Master’s in Mental Counseling at the University of Chicago, equipping myself with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and life experiences to help people explore their own emotions, gain insight, and develop the necessary skills to navigate life’s challenges. Therapy is an incredible tool for those who seek healing and happiness. As a therapist, I am committed to providing individual therapy to those who are ready to face their challenges. I believe that with persistent effort toward growth, progress will be made. Besides my work in therapy, I love to read a good fiction book, cook a home-cooked meal, or spend time with God by singing and playing my guitar. When I’m not at home, you can catch me at the local coffee shop, spending time with loved ones, or playing Spikeball at the beach.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I can help you manage your anxiety, depression, stress, and other everyday issues. I also help clients approach their difficulties with new perspectives. I want to get to know the whole you; the parts of you that are good and the parts of you that you believe to be bad. I will provide a space where you can feel supported through difficult challenges.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In my work, I help the client make the behavioral changes in order to stabilize their mental health. After doing so, I focus on identifying how your past environments, relationships, and experiences have shaped into your current behaviors, stressors, and challenges. I have experience working with individuals experiencing addiction, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, grief, trauma, and low self esteem. Lastly, I enjoy working with young emerging adults.
