I misunderstood him about the forms that I had to fill out that he sent me by email (which should've been filled out beforehand), and he just provided me with a copy and let me fill them out. The actual session was great too. He was totally professional, but still friendly and easy to talk to. I can't recommend him enough.”

Getting to know Dr. Franklin D. Russek

As an experienced practitioner of psychiatry, I have treated many patients for depression, anxiety, and a variety of other psychiatric symptoms with medicine and supportive psychotherapy. I have also employed interpersonal psychotherapy to help patients manage relationship and work-related problems and challenging personal concerns. Drawing upon my own positive and progressively deepening personal experience with mindfulness meditation practices, I coach and teach patients to help them engage with and develop the mindfulness skills they are learning (or have learned) either in 8-week mindfulness training programs or on their own. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. I completed an internship in Internal Medicine at New York Medical College, Metropolitan Hospital Center, followed by a residency in Psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. For urgent problems, patients may reach me by cell phone seven days a week. I do not treat patients with a primary substance diagnosis and prescribe no more than a one-week supply of any controlled medicine on the first visit. The New York State Prescription Monitoring Program is consulted before the patient's initial visit. In my leisure time, I enjoy playing the violin, attending concerts, and playing chamber music with family and friends. I also maintain an avid interest in baseball and current events.

Great initial visit with Dr Russek. We had a good conversation and discussed the right next steps for me. He's clearly well-qualified in his field, and I felt totally comfortable speaking with him. He has very flexible appointment times (I saw him on a saturday night, which I booked same day). Recommend.

Dr. Russek is an amazing doctor. He made me feel comfortable immediately. He has this ability to make you feel like "this is the person I needed, he's the one who will make me all better, because from the moment you make contact with him he gives you that undivided attention. He immediately developes a plan for you.

First time working with a Psychiatrist, and was rather nervous. Dr. Russek put my nerves to ease immediately with his calm and warm demeanor. Really enjoyed talking to him, and made a lot of progress towards my goals.

Dr Russek is truly a kind, highly intelligent, and thorough psychiatrist! I had just relocated to New York from Illinois and was trying to schedule appointments with my new doctors however my insurance had not yet been activated. Dr. Russek understood my financial situation as well as the urgency for an appointment for prescription refills, etc related to my condition. He did everything in his power to help me including detailed over-the-phone consultations/ discussions regarding my condition and simplifying NY's Health Insurance marketplace (Very different and much harder to navigate than Illinois!) Thank you Dr. Russek for your time, your concern, and your constant communication with me!!!!
