“Although I am a colleague of Dr. Potter’s (not a patient), I feel confident speaking to her abilities as a therapist. From my experiences working and learning alongside her, I know Dr. Potter to be both warm/empathetic and direct. She meets her patients where they are while still gently challenging them to grow and heal. She is particularly adept at supporting patients in finding their own voice and trusting themselves. It has been my immense pleasure to know Dr. Potter, and I would recommend her to any patient looking to build confidence in their own ability to navigate difficult experiences.”

Getting to know Dr. Georgia Potter

Greetings. I am a Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow, trained at the PAU-Stanford PsyD Consortium, now in NYC at the midtown offices of Bryant West Psychology. I work with teenagers and adults in individual, couples and family psychotherapy. I am dedicated to inclusive work that is sensitive to your needs and experiences no matter your background, race, ethnicity and gender/sexual expression. I am well trained and experienced in working with anxiety and depression; trauma in its various presentations; major life transitions and issues of identity; relational challenges & conflicts at work, home, family and in intimate/sexual connections; and challenges of the mind-body, such as disordered eating, as well as other issues that don’t fit neatly into a diagnostic box - I am most interested in who you are as a person, not a diagnosis. I invite you to reach out if you’re looking for a space to be deeply seen and understood—to explore your story, your values, and what gives your life meaning. Together, we can make sense of your experiences and move toward greater authenticity, purpose, and self-understanding.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My clinical experience is broad and varied. I have worked in clinical research at the Universities of California Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as community mental health, primary care, and both outpatient and inpatient settings at SUNY Upstate Medical University. I earned my doctorate from the PAU–Stanford PsyD Consortium, where I learned the importance of connecting mind and body in the treatment of mental health concerns. These experiences inform my work at Bryant West Psychology and shape my commitment to providing thoughtful, individualized, and high-quality care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My therapeutic approach is collaborative and supportive, and grounded in relational psychodynamic and existential perspectives, and integrates evidence-based practices such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I rely on these and other approaches to tailor our work to your needs. Beyond technique and experience, I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is a powerful vehicle for healing. I welcome humor and play in the therapy room, and you can expect me to be present, warm, open, and direct. I encourage your feedback, particularly if I disappoint you in some way - that is essential to a good therapeutic relationship - it is essential in all relationships. I also attend to the ways that broader systems—familial, cultural, and institutional—may have shaped you, failed you, and may continue to exert their influence on how you engage in the world. In practice, this means we work together to understand how the past shows up in the present to shape your life and may keep you stuck in patterns that no longer suit your needs and goals. We will work together to increase your sense of agency and choice, your flexibility in meeting life challenges, and self-awareness and self-trust, all of which promotes continued psychological growth.

Ongoing session: $160-350 for 50 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductibles and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurances (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, Health Scope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark ) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, and Fordham. Your insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our services more affordable when you're in-network. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.
