Getting to know Dr. Jacob Perry

As a licensed clinical psychologist with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from William James College and a Master's in Applied Psychology from Pacific University, I am committed to providing quality individual psychotherapy services to older adults and geriatric populations. For the past 7 years, I have helped individuals across the spectrum of age, gender, sexuality, and culture overcome a myriad of mental health concerns, such as anxiety and depression, panic and phobias, work, relationship and family of origin conflict, as well as substance misuse, addictive, obsessive, and compulsive behaviors. Through my internship at WellSpan Health and experience working in community mental health, college counseling, and integrative medical settings, I have become especially capable of treating complex trauma and anxiety disorders. Working alongside my patients as they struggle to attain richer and more fulfilling lives is my absolute privilege. Seeking therapy is a courageous step toward personal growth, and I am here to support you on this journey. I am committed to working alongside you to help you become the best version of yourself.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy relies on CBT, ACT, DBT, and Psychodynamic Theory, among others. It focuses on empowering patients by helping them understand how events and relationships from childhood and throughout their lifespan affect their emotions, as well as how they see themselves, others, and the world. Within a safe, accepting, and nonjudgmental environment, I invite individuals to think in new ways, experience emotions with greater safety and curiosity, and to engage in new actions that support meaningful change. My ultimate goal for those in my care is to live more whole, meaningful, and joyful lives, no matter what turbulence life presents. A New York City native, I earned my master’s degree from Pacific University's Applied Psychological Science program in Beaverton, Oregon, my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from William James College in Boston, and completed my internship and postdoctoral training within the CBT training program of WellSpan Health. Through working in community mental health, college counseling, integrative medical settings, and within a group practice, I have had the pleasure of working with patients from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and across all aspects of the gender/sexuality spectrum.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy is a place where we can learn about ourselves, explore the challenges we face, and discover ways to build a richer and more meaningful life. The first part of our work together is to build a "roadmap" identifying where you care about arriving to through our work together. My goal is to promote what you care about working on within our sessions, while helping you gain new skills and understandings which support change that matters to you. An essential part of my job is providing services that cater to the unique needs of each of my patients. I will work alongside you to identify how we can shape our work to meet your individual needs by utilizing a foundation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and integrating interventions from various other modalities including: somatic therapy, psychodynamic theory, cognitive processing therapy, and exposure and response prevention. If what we do is not working, we will work together to make our work what you need it to be. Together, we can support the change that matters to you.

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductible and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurances (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, Health Scope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark ) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, Fordham, FIT, and Pratt. In-network, your insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our service more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more). I really appreciate Dr. Perry for making me feel comfortable and heard, while helping me work through my struggles. I feel that he really tried to get to know me for me and not just for my symptoms.
Speaking with Dr. Perry a few times has helped me better understand what steps I can take to improve what I came in for. It's rewarding to come away from our sessions knowing that progress has been made and that I am moving in the right direction. I am highly pleased with his perspective and feel respected and not judged as I have in the past.
