“Excellent demeanor and provides an environment for an open conversation. He lets me guide the topic, but provides input that shows he cares about my concerns really wants to help. I also like the independent dr/patient experience. It’s more personal than the assembly line feeling of a big practice, and for me anyway, leads to more meaningful and productive sessions.”

Getting to know Dr. Joseph Jeral

Please note: While I do some medication management, it's only in the context of a therapy treatment plan in place together. I use psychotherapy and, when necessary, medications to help people address life challenges and emotional symptoms. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from Saint Louis University and completed my residency in Psychiatry at George Washington University Hospital.

I have been going to Dr. Jeral for over 15 years, he is always very responsive.
Dr. Jeral is an exceptional psychiatrist who I've seen for 10+ years. He is a fantastic listener and I would highly recommend him!
Excellent demeanor and provides an environment for an open conversation. He lets me guide the topic, but provides input that shows he cares about my concerns really wants to help. I also like the independent dr/patient experience. It’s more personal than the assembly line feeling of a big practice, and for me anyway, leads to more meaningful and productive sessions.
I have been seeing Dr. Jeral for several years. He has helped me work through some very difficult issues and rebuild my life. I had been desperately struggling with the related issues of anxiety, addiction and family trauma. I am so grateful that I found him and was able to turn my life around. He is knowledgable, patient and non-judgmental. I have made incredible progress and if you had asked me ten years ago if I would be where I am now-- stable, peaceful, married, gainfully employed and contributing to my community-- I would have never believed it. Though I see him less often now than I had when things were very tough it is reassuring that I still have him to keep on track and address new challenges as they arise. He is a gem.
Dr. Jeral has been my therapist and psychiatrist for 4 years and I will continue to see him as long as I can! He helped coordinate care with other providers, a huge help, as anyone with unsolved health issues knows. I'm very grateful for his care.
Dr Jeral was great. Very genuine and a good listener. Not judgemental, just wanted to help and understand my circumstances. When we ran into some medication side effects, he was knowledgeable and able to find an alternative. Very each to get in touch with. Heard back from him quickly and we were able to arrange appointments and get refills in a timely manner.
Dr. Jeral is an all-around wonderful provider! I've gone to him for over a decade, and he is consistently professional, thoughtful, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. It's also simple to make appointments, request refills, etc. Highly recommend!
Dr. Jeral has been a great sounding board as I have gone through multiple ups and downs in life. He asks me good questions that make me think and often helps me gain a new perspective on what is going on. I trust him a great deal as he has always been a safe place for me to be open and honest.
Dr. Jeral is an excellent, experienced psychiatrist. He is highly knowledgeable regarding medications and is also a very skillful therapist. He clearly cares a lot about his patients and their treatment.
Dr. Jeral has been my doctor for over eight years. He is empathetic and a good listener. One moment stands out during our many appointments together. I was beating myself up for doing something I thought was wrong (I can't remember what it was now), and he said, "That doesn't sound bad, that sounds human." And suddenly my perspective changed. He has a talent for putting challenges in context and helping his patients through hard times.
I have been a patient of Dr. Jeral for several years. He’s always on time, and takes time to answer any questions that I have. Easy to talk to , and all around nice person!
My visits were always helpful, and I was very much at ease talking to my doctor about my problems. I am feeling much better after these sessions and would recommend Dr. Jarel without any reservations.
Dr. Jeral is the rare psychiatrist who is willing to provide therapy for his patients (in addition to medication if needed). He's a great listener, as well as thoughtful and wise in how he shares his insights on sensitive topics. There are multiple people in my life with complicated diagnoses (ranging from neurodivergence to depression to personality disorders), and he has helped me to understand how that affects their behavior and my relationships with them. As a result, I've learned more about myself too, and how to set healthy boundaries in order to preserve my own mental health.
I have seen Dr. Jeral for several years after seeing another doctor who retired. Dr. Jeral's intense work has allowed me to live life more fully, to improve relationships with family members, and to better understand what makes me tick and what makes me happy. He has been an incredible partner in helping me to find a vocabulary and a set of tools that I can employ when I get into situations that previously would have been debilitating. I look forward to the days to come because of his deft handling of my problems and past episodes of anger. Everyone around me can see the huge difference that continues to evolve.
