Judy Morales (she/her) is a Mental Health Counselor providing therapy to adults and couples in New York State. She received her MA in Mental Health Counseling and certificate in LGBT Social Health and Wellness from NYU and her BS in Psychology with a minor in Women and Gender Studies from the State University of New York.
Judy strives to ensure clients know that they have someone in their corner that champions growth and success. In an effort to do so, she takes a Cultural-Relational approach in her work, focusing specifically on how our past experiences impact who we are today.
Judy initially began her work with young mothers at a family shelter in Brooklyn and has since continued to focus on Women of Color and LGBTQ folks. Growing up with a vibrant Puerto Rican family and finding her own path as a Queer Woman of Color, Judy feels drawn to working with clients who need someone who looks like them and understands how our lived experiences and the systems that we are involved in affect us.
Judy’s approach stems from the perspective that the better we know and understand where we have been, the better we can move through the here and now. Judy understands that experiences don’t happen in isolation, and the way we interact with the world is informed by our past, the people in our lives, and the systems in which we are embedded.
Judy believes that therapy should be a friendly and safe space to grow and move forward. She works with clients in a conversational way, ensuring that they are being heard and understood, while guiding them toward a more comprehensive and adaptive level of self understanding.
Judy is experienced in working with women, specifically women of color, queer and Trans folks, as well as people of varying identities dealing with depression, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, and everyday stressors.
