Occupational Therapist
NY
My name is Katie Blackwood, and I am a pediatric Occupational Therapist in NYC. I graduated from Quinnipiac University in the Entry-Level Master of Occupational Therapy program. While at Quinnipiac University, I received extensive training in sensory progressing and integration theories, which outline and guide my evidence-based practice. Additionally, I completed a graduate capstone in Occupational Therapy Executive Functioning Interventions, which was accepted to present at the American Occupational Therapy Association conference. I started my career as a school-based Occupational Therapist working for a private school for children with autism spectrum disorder between the ages of 5-12. I additionally have experience with home-based services, where I treat pediatrics in the natural context of their home. My services focus on making meaningful connections with my clients (and their families) through holistic and natural contexts. Using the principles of just-right challenge, I meet the child at their level while skillfully utilizing their strengths to create achievements in the areas with greater needs. I am proficient in administering the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales Second Edition (PDMS-2), Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency Second Edition (BOT-2), Beery-Buktencia Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration, Handwriting Without Tears Screener of Handwriting Proficiency, and Sensory Profile-2. I have training in Zones of Regulation and Handwriting without Tears. I am currently completing training in the Learn, Play, Thrive programs.
