What should a new client know about working with you?

I don’t confuse compassion and comfort with collusion and coddling. I want my patients to always feel safe, supported, and cared for, but never infantilized or pandered to. More than anything else, my style is meant to convey the profound level of trust and appreciation I have for every patient I am fortunate enough to work alongside. Therapy can be intensive at times, but when built on this foundation of respect and gentle challenge, I have seen my clients truly thrive.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In my initial intake with a potential new patient, I make sure to establish the dual purpose of our meeting; not only is it an opportunity for me to get to know them and hear more about their treatment goals, but importantly, it is also a chance for the patient to get a feel for my therapeutic style and clinical approach. I make sure to explain the various treatment modalities I offer and the specific ways I see them being able to meet the patient's individual needs. I explain the basic structure of each therapy session and the treatment process itself, as well review all important logistical details (billing, scheduling, documentation etc.). And as the treatment progresses, I make sure to inquire about their therapy experience and address any areas of difficulty or concern that they may be experiencing.
