About Dr. Keiko Yanai
Keiko Yanai is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who is a expert of craniosacral and
manual therapy in New York City. As founder of Directions Physical Health, Dr. Yanai is able to
spend a full hour individually treating each of her patients, custom tailoring their routines to
return them to a normal and pain free life. Always using the most conservative and effective
methods, Dr. Yanai combines deep tissue massage, myofascial release, joint mobilization, and
other innovative physical therapy techniques to create the perfect treatment plan for her patient’s
overall health.
Dr. Yanai earned her BA in Physical Therapy at Queens College and continued her education at
Stony Brook University, where she received her Doctorate in PT. After five years of training in
sports medicine facilities, Keiko Yanai opened Directions Physical Health so she may follow her
passion of building personalized treatment plans during the one on one, full hour sessions necessary to truly optimize overall healing.
Keiko’s early life experiences primed her for an interest in integrative medicine, and specifically, physical therapy. As a child living in Japan, Keiko learned how to massage and manipulate her mother’s back, and through her self-taught methods was able to relieve her chronic and often debilitating low back pain. During the same time, Keiko was using conventional medicine to treat her dermatitis with no success. She turned to lifestyle changes and alternative medicine, mixing diet changes, acupuncture, and herbal medicines to finally find relief.
Keiko took her natural talent for manual therapy and passion for health with her from Japan to New York City, where she set out on a career path that would allow her to use her skills to rehabilitate patients with chronic musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions.
Dr. Yanai specializes in craniosacral physical therapy, which requires pressure applied to areas of the back, neck, and head to relieve compression in the spine.
