Dr. Lauren Reid, PhD

Psychologist
PA
Empowerment, Collaboration, Connection, & Healing It can be really hard to find a therapist who has similar identities and lived experiences. As a biracial/bicultural mother, psychologist, and associate professor with a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami, I recognize the importance of a therapist who gets it. My goal is to support you and honor your experience by listening to what you need from a healing space. I am gender-affirming, LGBTQ+ affirming, and recognize the significance of race and culture. My therapeutic approach is best characterized by warmth, responsiveness, empowerment, and authenticity. I have extensive clinical experience and training working with individuals struggling with identity, relational problems, family of origin issues, trauma, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and stress management. I meet you where you are with a range of psychological approaches and tools to help you increase awareness, identify relational patterns, build coping strategies, and feel empowered to live authentically. Outside of my practice, I teach graduate counseling courses, provide supervision, and publish on biracial identity, anti-oppressive training of mental health providers, and racism-based trauma.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My hope is that you feel seen, heard, and less alone. My goal is for you to leave our first session feeling connected and like we have identified a starting place for healing. To that end, we will talk about your goals for therapy, how therapy might fit into your life (e.g., weekly or biweekly), and make a plan for when we will meet again. The first session is the beginning of our relationship, so I do not expect you to feel like you have told me "everything," but instead that you have a chance to see if my style is a good fit for you.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
