Getting to know Dr. Liberty Lillibridge

I am a postdoctoral therapist at Bryant West Psychology, working with adults from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. I am available both in-person (Midtown West) and throughout New York State online. I work with those struggling with anxiety, depression, stress around school, work and career, and those navigating conflict in their social, family, and intimate relationships. I also work with those in the midst of major life transitions, men struggling with self-expression, sexuality, and shifting expectations around their social roles. I am very interested in working with people struggling with issues of identity, spirituality, loneliness, and perfectionism, as well as multiracial mental health. Life is full of challenges that are often hard to manage on one’s own. I am here as both a fellow traveler and a trained professional to help. My therapeutic approach is primarily psychodynamic/psychoanalytic. However, I adjust my approach using tools from other evidence-based approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Narrative Therapy, to fit your unique needs. In my eyes, the core of the therapeutic process is the exploration of your internal world within a warm and reflective environment that has the potential to activate increased self-awareness and instill newfound agency. I also value the importance of working through and uncovering unhelpful patterns that emerge from how you historically relate with yourself, others, and your environments. By attuning to and challenging these recurring patterns, you can begin to gain a fuller understanding of yourself - and you can improve the quality of your relationships with the important people in your life. I hope that as you engage with this process, you will be able to have increased self-compassion, satisfaction in work/play, and psychological flexibility. Throughout this process, I will be focusing on your exploratory process and the relational dynamics that unfold before us.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I earned my doctoral degree at George Fox University and completed my internship training at the Stony Brook University Counseling Center, where I worked with University aged students of diverse backgrounds, who were mostly ambitious and engaged in the difficult work of forging an adult identity: negotiating both professional and personal goals and desires, and coming into themselves increasingly through the challenges they faced - including that of separating from their families of origin. I hope to continue such work with folks of all ages, to foster growth and fulfillment of goals and desires, no matter the developmental challenges you are facing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Engaging in therapy is vulnerable and can be an uncomfortable process. I understand that and aim to create a warm, supportive and safe environment where we can begin to explore difficult emotions (perhaps even the most painful of your lived experiences). Your choice, of course, but I am more than willing to go there with you and be by your side. Ideally you can, over time, feel secure enough in our connection to speak openly and honestly about the feelings and situations at the forefront of your mind, including those regarding our relationship. At whatever level you engage in our work, I will listen attentively and explore whatever you bring into our sessions. I will also empathically share reflections about what I am hearing and bring attention to potential realities that may be outside of your immediate awareness. Over the course of therapy, we will work on compassionately holding each other accountable as well as a deep respect for our shared, both wondrous and at times painfully flawed humanity. I hope to help you identify and come to better understand those values that you hold as most important to you to help guide your path into the future. I encourage you to take that first step, by reaching out to explore how we might work together toward healing, hope and growth so that you can live your life authentically, with greater agency and fulfillment.

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Ongoing session: $160-350 for 50 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductibles and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurances (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, Health Scope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, Fordham, FIT, and Pratt. Your insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our services more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.
