Getting to know Dr. Liza Kedioglou

I bring to my work with clients extensive academic training, clinical expertise, and rich life experience that allows me to tailor interventions to the unique needs of each client, whether they are dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, or complex personality disorders. My academic journey—spanning a BA in Psychology, an MA in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology—has been deeply rooted in the exploration of the human psyche. Before joining the Center for Progressive Psychotherapy, I completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Butner, NC. This experience sharpened my ability to address a wide range of psychological issues.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a first-generation Greek American, fluent in Greek, I am deeply curious about cultural and family dynamics. I am particularly attuned to how cultural backgrounds and familial relationships shape our personality and psychological well-being. This cultural sensitivity enhances my ability to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds, offering them nuanced and personalized support. In addition to my clinical expertise, I embrace a holistic perspective on mental health. As an Internationally Certified Integral Transformational Hatha & Vinyasa Yoga Instructor and a Certified Enneagram Consultant, I believe in the powerful synergy between mind, body, and spirit. This holistic approach enriches my practice, providing clients with a comprehensive pathway to explore their inner landscapes with depth and authenticity.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A guiding principle in my work is drawn from the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita: “For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, his very mind will be his greatest enemy.” This philosophy highlights the crucial importance of mastering one’s inner self—an endeavor I am deeply committed to supporting in each of my clients. I work with clients to guide them toward uncovering hidden aspects of their inner world and conquering the remnants of past experiences and traumas. Through the transformative power of self-reflection, I empower individuals to connect with their true selves and navigate the complexities of life with greater clarity and purpose. While my primary therapeutic framework is grounded in psychodynamic principles, I have advanced training in many evidence-based practices such as TF-CBT, ACT, and MBCT.
