Psychologist
6 E 39th St, Ste 1100, New York, NY
I’m licensed as a psychologist in multiple states, including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. I'm also board certified as an expert by the American Board of Professional Psychologists. I’ve been a fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology since 2013.I got my doctorate in clinical psychology from Long Island University after earning a bachelor’s degree at Harvard. After that, I worked for a long time at Montefiore Medical Center and as an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. ’ve also written a little bit about psychotherapy on PsychCentral.com, GoodTherapy.org, and Psychology Today. In my private practice, I’ve worked with physicians, business owners, executives, bankers, diplomats, and other people under pressure in stressful careers. I specialize in helping people motivate themselves, feel less depressed, and beat anxiety. People often come to me with difficulties at work, problems in their relationships, big decisions, or unexpected life events. I also often work with people who feel that they just aren’t succeeding as much as they would like, or couples who are having trouble getting along. As a therapist, I’m different with every patient, but I always listen as closely as I can, and I believe therapy should be a lively, supportive, challenging discourse. I offer psychodynamic treatment but I also have training in cognitive-behavioral therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I try to be genuine with my patients, which means I often say what I'm thinking (although I try hard to do so in a way that is helpful and not pejorative). I'm not the type of therapist who sits quietly and judges. You'll always know what I think -- and if you can't tell, feel free to ask me.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I do my best to meet my patients where they are, psychologically. It's a customized process that isn't one-size-fits-all. I spend the first session, which could be up to an hour, asking questions and gathering information about each person's individual history. From then on, either we work on the problems directly, manage stressors as they arise in the patient's daily life, or explore the ways that elements of the patient's background may contribute to their current situation.
