Psychologist
18 E 41st St, FL 14, New York, NY
As a therapist with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University, my primary goal is to empower you to analyze and understand your past and present and direct your future. Sometimes this is best achieved through examining and re-experiencing your past; other times, a present- and future-focused approach is better suited to get you where you want to be. You and I will determine that together, depending on your needs and goals. If you are struggling with dissatisfaction in relationships or work, feeling depressed or anxious without clear reasons, or bogged down by the past, I would love to hear from you and explore working together. My extensive training in diverse theoretical orientations—including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and family therapies—enables me to creatively tailor treatment to meet the needs of clients facing challenges such as life transitions, relationship issues, depressed or anxious mood, trauma, and other conditions. I also offer couples and family therapy. I believe self-exploration and growth are two main processes that give life meaning. But in this fast-paced world, it can feel like there is little time for deliberate contemplation of what matters or figuring out what’s going well or poorly, much less what to do with that information. Together, we can use therapy to do just that. As a therapist, I believe it is important to understand people in their contexts and to acknowledge the power dynamics underlying all relationships and society. I strive to practice in a multiculturally sensitive way that makes room for identities, ideas, and values outside the historically dominant culture. I enthusiastically welcome clients of diverse identities and backgrounds who wish to work on their challenges—whether related to their identities or not—with a provider who appreciates the importance of understanding people as they exist in broader social and cultural contexts.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am an active therapist who you can expect to challenge you while also providing consistent warmth and empathy. I'll do my best to check my understanding of you by asking you questions and I always welcome feedback from folks if something I say doesn't fit or feel right. Depending on your particular struggles, I might take a more structured approach or leave the space open to explore what's coming up for you but with either approach, you can rest assured that I will give feedback and engage actively with you in each session.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In a typical session, I'll ask you how you're doing and what has been going on for you. As you bring up topics, I'll listen actively and ask questions to clarify. I'll help you identify the problem or relate it to other challenges you've had in the past or aspects of your personality. We'll strive to develop a shared understanding of this struggle and identify ways to intervene when appropriate.
