About Dr. Marissa Schaeffer

Marissa T. Schaeffer, PT, DPT, earned her Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York, Purchase College Conservatory of Dance, and completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy at Columbia University. She works with the students and company members of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Steps on Broadway Professional Programs, and has collaborated with Limón Dance Company, HopeBoykinDance, as well as several Broadway shows, including Freestyle Love Supreme. Her expertise spans contemporary dance, ballet, musical theater, jazz, tap, and more. Marissa specializes in identifying issues at the root of a performer’s pain, rehabilitating injuries, and adjusting movement patterns to promote longevity. Like many dancers, she has personal experience with long-term injury, which for her culminated in extensive back surgery and a year-long recovery. Marissa is dedicated to helping performing artists and athletes—both professional and not—feel confident, comfortable, strong, safe, and respected as they transition quickly from FlySpace back to their normal activities.
