Hi there, I'm Mary!
Hello, I am Mary Brodsky, LCSW, and I have 31 years of experience helping people struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, childhood trauma, and work-related issues to lead more satisfying lives. My approach is compassion focused and psychodynamic, which involves looking at current patterns and issues through the lens of childhood history. I am also open to working with people's spiritual belief systems.
My approach
I believe that each client I work with has the capacity to heal and become whole, and it is through the therapeutic relationship with them that I help the client to look at patterns and obstacles to their healing. The way that I do this with each client is as unique as they are.
My focus
The clients that I have found the most satisfying to work with are those people who are motivated to understand themselves and are willing to work as hard as I am toward this goal. I also enjoy working with creative professionals of all disciplines.
My communication style
I am highly aware of how the importance of a safe and welcoming environment for therapy to succeed, and my style conveys compassion, curiosity, and openness. I have been told by former clients that I create an atmosphere of trust and caring.
My journey to therapy
My two main passions in life have always been psychotherapy and art, and I believe that psychotherapy is an art, and the therapist should always strive to grow.
My goals for you
The client and I together set goals that are changeable as the therapy progresses. I know therapy is helping when clients tell me that they have a reduction in symptoms, such as anxiety and depressed mood, but just as importantly, when they report having new experiences of themselves and the world. For example, it has not been uncommon for my clients while working with me, and they have their first positive significant relationship.
