“I first consulted Dr. Michael DeMeo in June 2016 in a true state of depressive crisis. I had been through several psychiatrists, all of whom I felt were ineffective, wasting lots of my time and money. I could tell from the beginning that there was something different about Dr. DeMeo, and established a sense of trust with him. Dr. DeMeo treated me like a person, not just a set of symptoms. He also identified symptoms that several other doctors had missed. We had several appointments before he made any medication recommendations, a welcome change from psychiatrists who often prescribe on the first visit. Soon after that I had my life back for the first time in over a year. I am like a new person and have Dr. DeMeo to thank for it. I'm not done, though. In addition to being a seasoned psychopharmacologist, Dr. DeMeo is also a skilled CBT/DBT therapist, and I will continue working with him to improve my life. In a city filled with lots of doctors who I felt were unable to help me I finally found some peace thanks to this truly gifted man. ”

Getting to know Dr. Michael De Meo

I specialize in the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Illness) and Addiction Illnesses. I have specific training and extensive clinical experience with the appropriate use of psychiatric medications and Cognitive Behavior Therapies, including DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). I use CBT to help people master the skills necessary to overcome disorders in their personality that limit their ability to achieve optimal health, happiness, and a sense of purpose. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University and completed my Internship, Residency in Psychiatry, and Fellowship in Psychopharmacology at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. I am one of the few "Psychopharmacologists" who has actually completed a Psychopharmacology Fellowship. I have extensive experience using Suboxone for opiate detoxification and maintenance. I am an enthusiastic advocate of 12-Step Recovery Programs and use the 12-Steps as a "road map" in Recovery Therapy and Counseling. My psychotherapy approach is best described as Biopsychosocial Spiritually Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have a particular interest and expertise in treating early trauma and abuse and its consequences, including Codependence issues, chemical and behavioral addictions. I help people achieve personal redemption and forgiveness. I practice as an "Out of Network" physician and do not directly take any insurance program. Payment is required at the time of service, and I will assist in every way in your getting reimbursed if you have out-of-network coverage.

Life changing.

Dr. DeMeo has been a lifeline for me. He really explains the chemistry behind our brain activities and how/why certain medications act on different areas. His office reminds me of a zen garden, with plants everywhere and great lighting. Zen is also how I feel after every session. Highly recommend him as a psychiatrist that knows what he is doing - not just haphazardly medicating.
Quite possibly saved my life or at least my relationship with my girlfriend Got me out of crisis mode through medication and multiple visits the first week
Dr. DeMeo is an excellent psychiatrist. He listens without judgment, is honest and trustworthy, and provides powerful insight into thoughts and behaviors. When I have struggled with difficult situations or decisions in my life, he has offered sound advice and suggestions that have helped me tremendously. In addition, he is always available during times of crisis. He is a wonderful physician and I highly recommend him to anyone seeking treatment.
I started working with Dr. DeMeo after a time of true crisis. He was immediately a voice of comfort and knowledge. He helped me to see that my past medical care was inadequate and in some cases even damaging. With his help I am recognizing that I played a large role in my poor treatment. I am learning self-care and self-advocacy based on his modeling of caring advocacy. Dr. DeMeo speaks frankly. He doesn't waste words and gets to the core issues. Unlike my previous experiences I feel like the doctor views me as a complete human being. His approach has been comprehensive and holistic. His office is filled with plants and art - it is a healing space. The wait time is minimal. I recommend Dr. DeMeo to anyone seeking excellent treatment and care.
