Getting to know Dr. Pamela Rook

Pronouns: she/her As a licensed clinical psychologist with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Widener University's Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology, I am privileged to provide individual and group therapy to adults of all ages and backgrounds. My training also includes a fellowship at Harvard University's Cambridge Health Alliance and an internship at Haverford College. I approach my work with a style that is warm, compassionate, trauma-informed, and curious, while also direct and challenging. I am prepared to work with you to address anxiety and panic, depression, grief, major life transitions, relationship and work challenges, family struggles, identity issues, acute and chronic medical conditions, trauma (sexual, physical, and emotional abuse and neglect), and emotional or life stagnation. My work is grounded in the relational psychoanalytic tradition. I view the patient-therapist dyad as a transformative relationship for exploring psychological dynamics operating beyond awareness and for fostering self-discovery and personal growth. This means I encourage open communication and firmly believe that moments of disagreement or tension serve as opportunities for growth and nurturing resilience to interpersonal conflict. Embarking on the journey to find the right therapist is a significant step, and I applaud your commitment to this process. The first contact is often difficult to make. Please feel free to reach out so we can discuss the possibility of creating a secure space for exploration, insight, and change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

While I primarily practice from a relational psychodynamic perspective, I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities that is highly individualized to each of my patients. This includes elements of ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), mindfulness, CBT, and other modalities. Extensive training in biofeedback and an in-depth grasp of the mind-body connection has also allowed me to understand the ways in which mental health can have significant and real effects on physical health, and vice versa, especially when one has a history of trauma. The connection between mental and physical often plays a role in my therapeutic approach, particularly when working with those who suffer from medical ailments.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I will work collaboratively with you. My primary aim is to cultivate an authentic connection, allowing you to feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. This provides a secure space for delving into deep-seated, often unconscious thoughts, feelings, desires, fears, and patterns rooted in your personal and relational history. I also aim to create a space that allows for you to make meaning of past relationships and life events that may influence your present experiences, empowering you to make new choices and cultivate healthier connections. During therapy sessions, I listen for what is left unsaid, and understand that the unstated is often as important as what has been verbalized. I use inquiry and empathy to help you elaborate on what has perhaps been too difficult to state in the past, and to identify patterns that may be contributing to feelings of stuck-ness. I will work with you to achieve your goals as well as to discover emergent goals that come out of our work together (not everyone begins therapy with concrete goals in mind).

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Ongoing session: $200-350 for 53 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether we are in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle and paper-work free for you. We can directly bill your insurance for you, and you can directly pay us any deductible and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old fashion ways - check, cash.... In-Network: Our clinicians may be providers in the following networks: Aetna, NYU Student (Wellfleet/Cigna) and Columbia University Student (Aetna). In this case our fees are set by your insurance company, as are your co-pays and deductible. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, Beacon (to name a few). Your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more) depending on your plan. We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank - that is, your bank.
