Dr. Richard Taylor Stevens, PsyD

Psychologist
VA
I welcome clients of all backgrounds and value the process of developing a therapeutic alliance. As a longtime soldier, I have had the honor of working with people from more backgrounds than I can possibly list, and getting to know new people continues to be a wonderful part of my life as a licensed clinical psychologist. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. My goal has always been to work myself out of a job, so I like to establish collaborative goals during our process together, then work to get you to that point as soon as possible. Of course, I am open to changes along the way because life loves to change on us. I am a generalist psychologist with an extensive background working with military members and veterans. I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds who are facing a variety of conditions. I do have to draw a line with virtual therapy, though. If someone is experiencing life-threatening symptoms, I just can't safely address that virtually. Life is tough, and the reality is that most of us will struggle with psychological symptoms at some point in time. I think people should be proud to be taking control of those. If not, I wish you the best in your journey!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our intake session (the first one), I will have to get some pretty specific information, so it can feel a little "interviewy," but I let clients choose the direction of the following sessions to whatever degree they feel comfortable. If you want structure and explicit guidance, I can do that. If you prefer a free-flow conversation, that works too.
