Dr. Ronald Nicholson, PsyD

Psychologist
NY
Hi, I'm Dr. Ronald Nicholson, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in anxiety, OCD, burnout, and performance psychology. I work with individuals who are experiencing stress and anxiety that's getting in the way of living the life they want, whether personally or professionally. My focus is on helping people move forward, one step at a time, toward their goals. Before transitioning to clinical practice, I spent nine years as a clinical researcher leading teams that used quantitative and qualitative methods to better understand why people do what they do. My approach is structured, evidence-based, and tailored to each person's needs. I draw from CBT, DBT, ACT, and Exposure Therapy to help clients identify unhelpful patterns, face what's been holding them back, and build the skills needed to move forward with greater confidence and clarity. I believe meaningful progress is achievable, and I'm here to help you get there. I hold a doctorate from Yeshiva University's Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and bring a research-informed, clinically grounded approach to every client I work with. If you're ready to take that first step, I'd love to connect.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a structured, goal-oriented approach to therapy, so if you're someone who appreciates having a clear direction and measurable progress, you'll likely feel at home working with me. That said, I also understand that getting started can feel daunting, especially if you've been dealing with anxiety or OCD for a long time. My background as a clinical researcher means I'm deeply invested in understanding what actually works and why, and I bring that same curiosity and rigor to my clinical work. You can expect sessions that are focused and purposeful, while still feeling like a genuine partnership.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin with an initial appointment where I take time to understand your history, your symptoms, and what you're hoping to achieve. From there I work with you to develop a clear treatment plan with goals we've identified together. Depending on your needs, I'll draw from CBT, ACT, DBT, or Exposure Therapy, using whichever combination is best suited to what you're working through. For clients dealing with OCD or anxiety in particular, Exposure Therapy is often a core part of the work, and I'll walk you through that process carefully so you always know what to expect. Progress is something we track and revisit regularly, adjusting as needed along the way.
