I am a psychiatrist and trained psychoanalyst practicing in New York City for over 25 years. I earned my Bachelor’s from Cornell University, my Doctor of Medicine from Drexel University, completed residency in psychiatry at The Mount Sinai Hospital, and a fellowship in psychoanalysis at Columbia University Medical Center. I am also a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical Center and a Psychoanalyst associated with Columbia University Psychoanalytic Institute.
I see people of all ages with a broad practice. I treat anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and patients facing conflicts in personal relationships and work-related stress. Additionally, I treat obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders, and sexual disorders.
My approach is highly individualized, considering each patient’s specific circumstances to collaboratively formulate a treatment plan. My methods include talking therapy (psychotherapy), psychopharmacology, and psychoanalysis. I believe in a holistic approach, recognizing mind and body as integral parts of a whole person. Having worked globally with diverse cultures, I am sensitive to patients from various backgrounds.
I have been recognized by top rating organizations such as New York Magazine, Castle Connolly’s Guide to America’s Top Doctors, Top Doctors for Psychiatric Treatment of Cancer Patients, and US News and World Report. My review would be higher had he actually responded with the information he promised after my appointment. Once he got my credit card info I never heard another word. Seems like another old doctor looking for an easy paycheck on his way out. If you want real help I’d look elsewhere.

I was very nervous, of course! (I have immense anxiety) Dr Basch was very professional , bit gruff but, that was just to get down to business and make most efficient use of our first appointment time together. I found that I was very safe quite quickly, knowing I was in the hands of someone that knew what they were doing. I don’t need a “Coddler” with kid gloves.
OR Someone with little or no experience trying to pretend they know more than me about me, without even a thorough evaluation first.
You want to feel better after session is over than before, of course. But not from getting your hand held. Preferably from learning something new “in session” & moving forward, if even in the slightest... That’s my take on
Dr. Basch!

I have been seeing psychiatrists and mental health providers for a majority of my adult and adolescent life. Over the past 10 years, since around 2011, I noticed that it was become increasingly difficult to find a mental health professional that I truly felt a medical doctor has an actual interest in assisting me with my treatment, and truly cared about my well-being and mental health.
During my appointment with Dr. Samuel Basch, I truly felt that he was a medical doctor who truly cared abut my physical and mental well-being, and seem to possess an actual interest in assisting me with my treatment.

Client For Life !!! He is a Expert in all medical conditions. I do not subscribe to coincidence . Since my last visit I’ve put on 10 pounds I have not been able to gain weight for 20 years 20 ... I have been to so many other doctors Mr. Basch makes them all look incompetent in retrospect. Insomnia from acute PTSD is nearly nonexistent after one visit .Thank you so very much . This man just has an amazing gift of hearing the pain in your voice and knowing what can help you. He suggests so many things that we could change and in return would see change! He has a sense of humor which I love and the best part he isn’t meaning to be funny. He just is and it makes you step back and say like damn..... What an Amazing Doctor.
Dr. Basch truly cares about his patients and I've never been treated with so much understanding and he makes me feel so heard. I have a rare disease and very much anxiety, PTSD, and severe panic attacks from what i go through every day. and his incredible ability to select what will work for me is unmatched. I extremely recommend this caring Doctor, especially for people that suffer from uncurable chronic illnesses that have GAD and panic attacks. Dr. Samuel Basch is is such a breath of fresh air. This Doctor has done more for me in 30min than all the other Dr's I have had. This Doctor really has helped me out and I have such a new outlook on life. I have wasted many years being a loner and distancing myself from socializing and the public, I just wish I had met this incredible Doctor sooner. I have incredible hope now, after my visit with Dr. Basch, i can get and keep a job and make the rest of my life as fulfilling as i can, with amazing thanks to Dr. Basch and all his wonderful help. I think he addressed everything that I was really bothing me, I just wanted to dacknowledge the ADHD /Add which he said the medication I was asking for was very addictive but I have no addiction in my family nor have I ever missused a substance. My goal is to have him put me on what I know what works for me,. Bc I have success with it.
