Scott Jensen, LCP

Psychologist
CA
I have been a therapist for 20+ years. In addition, I am a professor of psychology and do research on parenting and other interventions. I believe in the power of individuals to face and overcome their difficulties, and I love supporting them in the process. My approach I use cognitive-behavioral and choice theory/reality therapy techniques. My focus I have expertise in working with clients across a variety of struggles. I have worked a lot with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, as well as with parents struggling with child behavior issues. My communication style I am collaborative within a structured environment. I help clients to be more aware of their thoughts and processing, as well as to become more aware of others with whom they interact. As we increase our awareness, we are able to evaluate and find more effective solutions to our struggles. My journey to mental healthcare I have always been fascinated by what motivates us and how we choose the actions we do. I started my training with the goal of helping parents address child behavior difficulties. I have really enjoyed doing so, but along the way, I have expanded those goals to helping individuals with all types of problems, including relationships, depression, anxiety, and others. My goals for you Clients need to be invested in their own goals. It does not work for me to just tell people what to do. As we increase awareness of the core issues, clients are able to better evaluate and make goals for change. I support the process of developing and accomplishing those goals. My first session with you I will help them focus on their current struggles and help increase awareness of what may be going on. I will not delve a lot into the past, but we may bring in some previous examples to help better illuminate the current issues. By the end of the first session, we will have a good sense of what the client wants from therapy and a rough roadmap of how to get there.
