Stress from break ups, work difficulties and life transitions can trigger anxiety and depression that can feel debilitating. To cope, some turn to drinking or using drugs to excess, spending too much time online, and other unproductive, compulsive ways to find relief from feeling overwhelmed, helpless, or numb. However, they can become habitual and damage our self-esteem and confidence and in extreme cases affect our ability to function. My goal in treatment is to first minimize your symptoms—stabilizing your mood and anxiety, controlling the intake of alcohol and drugs, and then we work on setting realistic goals. For some people this is what they want and need. For others, they also want to look back at their lives and explore the origins of these symptoms and patterns of behavior and beliefs. where these symptoms originate. And this type of work takes time and patience but the process results in more profound and deeper changes. I am dedicated to supporting you with empathy, clinical experience, practical wisdom and objectivity, to help you regain control over your behaviors and understand your feelings so you can better manage them.
