Getting to know Jiayue Liu

Jiayue Liu is a compassionate and bilingual Mental Health Counselor dedicated to helping women and individuals from diverse backgrounds find healing, strength, and balance in their lives. She believes that therapy is a collaborative journey—one where you can safely explore your emotions, rediscover your voice, and move toward greater clarity and confidence. Jiayue provides a warm, nonjudgmental space for clients navigating grief, cultural transitions, anxiety, depression, and major life changes. Her approach is both gentle and empowering, inviting self-awareness and personal growth at a pace that feels right for each person. Drawing from evidence-based practices, Jiayue tailors her work to meet the unique experiences and strengths of every client. Her integrative style blends Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based techniques. Having lived in both China and the United States, Jiayue brings a multicultural and trauma-informed perspective to her work, honoring the complexity of each individual’s story. She offers sessions in both English and Mandarin Chinese, available virtually and in person.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy is a collaborative and supportive journey, and everyone moves at their own pace. In our sessions, I offer a warm, calm, and nonjudgmental space where you can speak freely and explore your experiences in the way that feels right for you. You are the expert of your own life. I’m here to gently guide, support, and walk alongside you as you navigate your path. As a bilingual therapist (English and Mandarin Chinese), I value the cultural and personal layers each client brings. If language or cultural background is important to you, we can make space for that in our work together. I listen closely and with care, and I tailor our sessions to your unique needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. My style integrates person-centered therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based practices. These approaches help us deepen understanding, build inner resources, and move toward meaningful change in a grounded and compassionate way. Many clients share that they feel understood and less overwhelmed after our sessions. My hope is that you leave therapy with greater clarity, a stronger connection to yourself, and practical tools to help you meet life’s challenges with confidence and steadiness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together typically begins with an intake session. During this time, we explore your past experiences, current concerns, and what led you to seek therapy. I ask gentle and thoughtful questions to understand your emotional world, personal background, and the hopes and goals you hold for yourself. This first meeting helps us build a solid foundation and ensures that the direction of therapy offers meaningful support to you. After this initial meeting, we move into ongoing sessions where we continue to explore your experiences and gradually work toward your goals. The pace and structure of therapy always follow your comfort level and preferences. This may include emotional exploration, learning coping strategies, or building practical tools for your daily life. When appropriate, I may integrate approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, or mindfulness, but only in ways that genuinely align with your needs. Throughout the therapeutic process, we check in regularly to make sure our work remains supportive and relevant. Over time, you can expect a steady and collaborative path of growth, one that helps you gain clarity, deepen self-awareness, and develop a stronger sense of grounding as you navigate life’s challenges.
