Getting to know Emma Gardner

Emma (she/her/hers) recognizes the bravery and vulnerability of coming to therapy and approaches each client with warmth, curiosity, and without judgment. She believes that a supportive therapeutic relationship provides the foundation for exploration, insight, and self-acceptance. Her style is collaborative, relational, and psychodynamically-informed as she works with clients to better understand their lives, past and present, and to determine, with authenticity and strength, where they want to take them. Emma works with individuals and couples.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Emma comes to psychotherapy with a lifelong interest in people and what makes them who they are. She chose clinical social work after a long creative and entrepreneurial career, based on the deeply held conviction that though we are all influenced by factors we don’t control, by coming to understand ourselves, with curiosity and self-compassion, we gain agency over our lives. A graduate of Smith College School for Social Work, Emma’s training complements a wealth of professional and personal experience that informs and enriches her clinical insight. Understanding how suffering can interfere with self-perception and the ways we experience the world, Emma brings warmth, creativity, humor, and empathy to her work, and strives to create an inviting space in which clients can safely explore their hopes, challenges, and strengths, and feel better and more self-confident as a result.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We provide psychotherapy on a weekly basis as part of our treatment model, helping clients make consistent progress over time. If you have any questions about your appointment or scheduling, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
