Wendy Thornell, LMSW

Psychotherapist
2824 Terrell Rd, Ste 402, Greenville, TX
I’m Wendy Thornell, LMSW, a therapist in Greenville, TX, specializing in teens, families, and the tough moments that can feel overwhelming. Many of the teens I work with are neurodivergent, anxious, or struggling to fit in, and I provide a safe space where they feel seen, understood, and supported. Parents often tell me their teen starts spending more time out of their room and reconnecting at home after just a few sessions. My approach is hands-on and eclectic, drawing from TF-CBT, DBT, solution-focused, and narrative therapies while keeping things real and relatable. I bring not only my professional training but also my personal experience as a parent walking through similar struggles, which allows me to connect with both teens and parents on a deeper level. I believe in partnering with teens to work on what matters most to them, while also giving parents tools to feel more confident and hopeful. My goal is simple: to help families move from surviving to thriving, with more peace, connection, and joy along the way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m down-to-earth. Therapy with me doesn’t feel stiff or clinical—I meet you where you are, whether that means talking, using activities, or just taking time to feel comfortable. Safety comes first. Before anything else, I make sure my clients feel safe and supported. This is the foundation for making progress together. We work as a team. I don’t come in with a “one-size-fits-all” plan. Instead, we set goals together and I adjust our approach to fit your teen’s needs and your family’s values. I use practical tools. Whether it’s calming strategies, communication skills, or ways to handle big feelings, I give tools that can be used right away in daily life. Progress takes time—but you’ll see shifts. Many families notice small but meaningful changes within just a few sessions, like their teen opening up more, spending less time isolated, or handling stress a little better. Parents are part of the process. I support you, too. Often, parents leave sessions feeling more equipped and hopeful about how to connect with their teen. I understand both professionally and personally. As a therapist and as a parent who has walked through hard seasons, I know how overwhelming it can feel—and I also know that healing and change are possible.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When we first meet, I take time to get to know you (or your teen) in a way that feels comfortable—not rushed or clinical. We’ll talk about what’s been going on, what’s working, and what feels overwhelming. From there, we set some simple, realistic goals together. Sessions are hands-on and tailored to each person. I might use tools from TF-CBT, DBT, solution-focused, or narrative therapy, depending on what fits best. With teens, I meet them where they are—sometimes that looks like talking, other times it’s doing an activity together that helps them open up. With parents and families, I focus on building connection and practical strategies that actually work in daily life. Safety and trust always come first. Over time, clients usually start noticing positive shifts—like feeling calmer, communicating better, and getting back to things that bring joy. My role is to walk alongside you, offering support, encouragement, and tools you can use long after our sessions end.
