Dr. William W Jones, MD

Psychotherapist
252 7th Ave, Suite 7O, New York, NY
People often come to see me when they feel stuck, confused, or burdened by emotional states or patterns that cause suffering for themselves or their loved ones. My practice offers a place to slow things down—to attend carefully to what may be operating beneath the surface of one’s life. It is grounded in sustained listening, and in close attention to how a person experiences themselves, relates to others, and organizes their inner life. As a psychoanalyst, I work in depth—not simply to relieve symptoms, but to create the conditions in which emotional experiences can be held, thought about, and gradually transformed over time. Dreams are central to this process: not as material to be decoded, but as primary expressions of unconscious emotional life, often giving form to experience before it can be reflected upon or spoken aloud. This way of working is often sought by individuals for whom medication or short-term approaches, such as CBT, have not been sufficient. It is not a quick fix and involves a longer-term commitment, but it offers the possibility of a more enduring change in how one thinks, feels, and experiences oneself and others. Although I am both a psychoanalyst and a board-certified psychiatrist, my practice is limited to psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. While I recognize that psychiatric medications can be helpful for some, I do not prescribe them in order to devote myself fully to analytic treatment with the people I see.
