About Dr. Yannis Mavrommatakis
I earned my doctor of physical therapy degree from Columbia University, specializing in adult neuro-rehabilitation while maintaining a deep interest in sports rehabilitation. I grew up in the South-East of England and studied in London, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s degree in neuroscience and a PhD in developmental neurobiology. Looking for a new challenge and experience to live abroad I moved to New York city to work as a research scientist at Columbia University, where I worked for eight years analyzing the eyes of fruit flies. While I was coaching and playing with the Columbia Medical School rugby team, I suffered a serious knee injury that needed surgery and a long bout of physical therapy to recover. It really was a life-changing moment for me. While laying on the treatment table as a patient, I became so interested in everything related to physical therapy that it led me back to school and into a new career. After working as a therapist for 4 years in NYC, surviving the initial lockdown of NYC and getting married using Zoom, my wife and I decided to escape the concrete jungle and move to the open spaces and mountains of the PNW, and we are loving it so far. Outside of the clinic I love photography, travelling, going on road-trips and exploring the national parks with my wife, spending time with family and watching rugby, football (soccer!) and the occasional pint of ice cream.

Excellent clinic with an amazing team making you feel welcomed and cared for. Yannis is the best PT anyone can wish for, he is very knowable, dedicated and hard working, especially on your muscles!!! He analyzes everything, not only the injury at hand, and then targets all the surrounding factors contributing to your problems. I have made huge improvements since I started going to Orthology and I know its thanks to Yannis and the whole team at Orthology.

What can I say except "Orthology" is the best for your physical therapy needs. Yannis along with his student therapists is amazing, I'm literally in tears during my sessions, but as they saying goes, "no pain, no gain", I always leave, after work of course with a smile and walking like a new woman.

Yannis is the BEST physical therapist I've been to. It is so hard to find a good PT and I've gone to several run of the mills therapists pre and post my double hip replacement surgery. Yannis is so skilled in diagnosing and treating based on my level of improvement each visit and comes up with different exercises. He answers all my numerous questions, is kind, funny and has great bedside manner. Yannis has healing hands and I always feel better after a session! Cassandra the trainer is also awesome and super nice. I've been going to Yannis since Thanksgiving and now ready to go hike Yosemite next week with new hips! I highly recommend Yannis for any physical therapy needs.

I've been going to Yannis on and off for over five years now, through five different orthopedic surgeries. He is hands-down the best physical therapist I've ever had - and as a former athlete, I've had many! Most importantly, the amount of time he and other therapists at Orthology spend with their patients is at least twice as long as it's been at other clinics I've worked with.
Yannis is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, and explains things thoroughly and well, but he's also very witty and fun to be around.
Overall, the facility is incredibly clean and their Covid protocols are very thorough - every single piece of equipment is disinfected after each use, without fail.
I've recommended Yannis and Orthology to multiple friends or family members already. I can't imagine going anywhere else.

Dr. Yannis Mavrommatakis was belong thorough in accessing my problem, going over corrections, and giving me exercises to do to strengthen myself. Dr. M was very knowledgeable and quite kind. He took the time to explain, physiologically, why I was having the difficulties that I was, and how his suggested treatment plan would address them. He answered all of my questions and made sure his suggestions were things I'd actually find doable. I left feeling some relief already and like I was in good hands.

Yannis has set the bar very HIGH for any future physical therapist that treats me! He educated me on not only the root cause of my pain but, of my entire anatomy and how our body works. Yannis has made everything better! I came to him with some lower back pain, and he took a lot of care to ask about my history and come up with hypotheses about why I was having that issue. His thoroughness and thoughtfulness have been incredibly valuable - he is very good at explaining what is going on and takes a lot of care in the treatment and the "homework" exercises as well. I am so thrilled to have found Orthology. Yannis is a wonderful physiotherapist with formidable knowledge of the human anatomy. Six sessions at my previous PT place did absolutely nothing for me- a single session with Yannis did wonders for my shoulder impingement issue. There are so many PTs out there, I realize how crucial it is to find the right one.

I thought it was great! Yannis is great at listening to where I have been feeling only discomfort or pain. He often adjusts my exercises for the day based on how I have been feeling with my hip surgery recovery process. I also appreciate his efforts in challenging me with a new set of exercises during appointments.

Yannis consistently provides thorough injury evaluation and progress monitoring. He designs excersize program to respond to my individual needs and frequently checks in with my excersize experience as well as functionality. I like how Yannis & Cassandra work together. I feel like they are a team invested in my progress, also both Yaniis & Cassandra are encouraging, the recovery journey can be challenging. Robin is very responsive to all patient and runs a smooth operation!

Excellent. Extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful. Listened carefully, explained diagnosis and treatment options fully. Watched astutely both to assess condition and exercises to make sure they were being done correctly. Hands on for the PT itself. Took as much time as needed and did not pass the buck to a sub-ordinate to teach and monitor the exercises, as so often happens. One of the best PT's I've encountered.
