Getting to know Dr. Zev Zingher

Hello; I love my work as a psychiatrist and care deeply to help patients live fully again or for the first time. Many of my patients arrive feeling exhausted. They have tried treatments that almost worked, but didn't quite get them to where they needed to be. If that is you, I want you to know: being stuck isn't permanent. You aren't starting over—you are starting fresh, with a partner genuinely committed to finding the right path for you. Who I Am: I am a double board-certified psychiatrist in both Child & Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry. I completed my specialized Child & Adolescent Fellowship at the University of Virginia and hold a Master’s in Psychopharmacology from Harvard University. I work with patients across the entire lifespan—from navigating a child's ADHD to guiding adults through complex depression. (I also love dogs; if we meet in person, you will get to meet Bear, my certified therapy Corgi who takes his job very seriously). My Philosophy: My practice is built on one core belief: People don't fail treatments—treatments fail people. I work hard to truly listen and understand your experience beyond just a checklist of symptoms. I remain genuinely open-minded about considering all factors and treatment options that might help—whether that means adjusting medications, exploring new modalities, or looking closely at lifestyle and environment. Comprehensive Treatment: I specialize in Mood Disorders (Bipolar, Depression, PMDD), Anxiety, OCD, and ADHD. I reject "assembly-line" psychiatry. My approach is deeply individualized and integrates: Precision Medicine: Medication management tailored to your metabolism, often utilizing GeneSight pharmacogenetic testing. Interventional Psychiatry: Offering TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) for treatment-resistant depression. If you are looking for a fresh approach and a psychiatrist who will truly see and understand you, I'd be honored to help.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is straightforward, compassionate, and grounded in really getting to know the person in front of me. I try to create a space where you can talk openly, feel understood, and not worry about being judged. From there, we work together on treatment that’s both practical and effective, with the goal of real, noticeable improvement in how you feel and function. I don’t accept insurance directly, but many patients are able to get reimbursed if they have out-of-network mental health benefits. I’m always happy to provide a detailed invoice (superbill) for you to submit. I choose to work outside of insurance so that our sessions can be thorough, thoughtful, and centered fully on your needs rather than the limitations of insurance-based care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Each patient I work with receives a thoughtful, individualized approach. Our first meeting is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation where I take time to understand your full story—your symptoms, history, strengths, and goals. This allows me to provide a clear diagnosis when appropriate and discuss a treatment plan that may include talk therapy, medication, or a combination of both. I incorporate therapy into my work with many patients, especially those looking for support with life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, or identity-related concerns. I believe in creating a space that is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in trust—where your voice is central to your care. Follow-up appointments are typically 30 to 45 minutes and focus on ongoing therapeutic conversation, monitoring progress, and adjusting treatment as needed. My goal is to help you feel better in a way that is sustainable, empowering, and aligned with who you are.

**Please note: I do NOT accept insurance. This allows for privacy and authentic patient care and sufficient time with patients. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a super-bill for insurance reimbursement.** PRACTICE POLICIES AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES: I am committed to providing the highest standard of evidence-based care. Please be advised that I do NOT initiate or provide long-term prescriptions for benzodiazepine medications (such as Xanax, Klonopin, or Ativan). However, I am happy to work with patients currently taking these medications who are motivated to safely taper off them. In these cases, we will focus on transitioning to safer, non-benzodiazepine-based alternatives and integrated treatment strategies. ADHD EVALUATIONS AND TREATMENT: For patients seeking an evaluation for ADHD, I utilize a comprehensive diagnostic process to ensure accuracy and safety. To begin this process, I require the following: - Comprehensive documentation and records from previous mental health or medical providers. - Results from any prior psychological or neuropsychological testing. - A willingness to participate in a thorough clinical evaluation. Intake, Evaluation, Diagnosis & Treatment Recommendations (90 mins): $400 Ongoing Medication Management/Therapy (30 mins): $300 Therapy/Medication Management (60 mins): $350

Dr. Zingher was polite and very easy to talk to. I have talked to a therapist before, but never an actual Psychiatrist and was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. He listened carefully to what I had to say and gave me a lot of great information that helped me to understand the most likely causes of what I was feeling. I enjoyed talking with him and look forward to speaking with him again in the very near future.

Dr. Zingher is experienced, knowledgeable and generous with his tme. Although we met virtually at the end of the day, he was fully present and patient as I relayed my adolescent son's history and current condition. (He was also able to engage my son in a conversation.) Dr. Zingher asked good questions and, when possible, answered mine and shared his insights. The next day, he provided a helpful written evaluation. I highly recommend Dr. Zingher.

Dr. Zingher is incredibly approachable, kind, and knowledgeable. This combination is exactly what you want in a psychiatrist, but in my experience, it’s pretty hard to come by. I really appreciate that he, as well as his assistant, went the extra mile to help sort out admin matters both before and after the appointment.

He called me the day before the appointment to understand my situation in advance. He is a doctor who genuinely wants to help you.

Some minor miscommunication to start (Admin), but for the stuff that matters he is a fantastic listener, and really seems to know what he is talking about. Emptetic and gave me the time to be seen.

Dr Zingher was spectacular and really took the time to listen and diagnose me. He went over every question I had and decided on a course of treatment. I’ve never felt so comfortable with a mental health provider.

I had been experiencing some very extreme anxiety and depression symptoms for quite some time. I really had it difficult time finding someone that would take me so quickly, locally. Not only did I get a next day appointment I was so pleasantly surprised. Even when my health insurance kicks in next month I will definitely continue to see him.

My appointment with this psychiatrist was quite honestly spectacular. Not only was he concise with his questions, but he was also empathetic upon hearing my responses. The doctor had multiple formats towards ensuring a comfortable environment. As well as quite understanding in ways to increase comfort.

The secretary, Nikki, is so patient, caring, and kind. She helped me every step of the way, took her time answering all my questions, and made me feel like a person instead of a number. Great customer service and professionalism! Dr. Zingher amazed me with his wealth of clinic knowledge, yet did a fantastic job communicating to me in layman's terms so I could easily understand and relate. He spoke to me genuinely and made me feel safe and comfortable. Each of my concerns were heard and addressed individually. He took his time and spent a full 60 minutes with me on my initial visit, which is very rare in this industry. If you're looking for a truly GREAT doctor who you can trust with your medication management and mental health needs, I highly recommend this practice. Customer service/ patient care is their number one priority, and it shows! Huge, huge, THANK YOU to Dr. Zev Zingher and Miss Nikki too!!! I appreciate you so much.

Dr. Zingher is great! Listened to my history and considered the whole picture when helping me come up with a suitable treatment plan!

Dr. Zingher was a great listener. I appreciate that he wanted to listen to my thoughts and concerns as the parent alone and then listen to my teenager’s concerns and struggles alone. He was not dismissive. When recommending treatment he took into consideration her history and needs instead of retrying the things that did not work.

I've had some really bad luck with mental health "professionals" -- who's to say if that's more to do with me or them. I'm especially touchy about dealing with male mental health professionals, I tend to find them less understanding. That's why working with Dr. Zingher was such an incredibly pleasant surprise. He really took the time to listen and *hear* me, and to understand not only the immediate issues I was dealing with, but also with the nuanced context surrounding the issues. In my experience, this level of attentiveness is unusual for psychiatrists. After a string of bad experiences I was about ready to give up. I feel very fortunate to have run across Dr. Zingher.

Dr. Zinger is amazing! He helped my son transform from self loathing to a happy child with high self esteemed. He is warm, kind, gentle, and funny. He saved my child and thus my family. We had tried many mental health professions before, with no results. He truly meets children where they are at. My only regret is that we did not try him first. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Zinger was great very informative, friendly, and knowledgeable. they checked in with me before to make sure I could get everything I needed and clarify the details 10/10
