Dr. David Hicklin’s journey to Family Dental Health is a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence in dentistry. Born and raised in Spartanburg, SC, Dr. Hicklin’s early education and pursuit of a career in chemistry at Furman University laid the foundation for his future endeavors. Driven by a desire to make a direct impact on people’s lives, Dr. Hicklin embarked on an extended work-study program at the prestigious Los Alamos National Laboratory. However, it was through exploration and collaboration with professionals across the upstate of SC that he discovered his true calling in the dental profession. Dentistry, with its unique blend of helping others and showcasing hand skills as an art form, resonated with Dr. Hicklin’s passions. His educational journey continued at the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Dental Medicine, where he graduated in 2006. Notably, he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society, recognizing his exceptional dedication to the field. Post-graduation, Dr. Hicklin chose to refine his skills further through a general practice residency at Palmetto Health Richland (now Prisma Health) in Columbia, SC. There, he underwent comprehensive training in sedation dentistry, implant dentistry, oral surgery, esthetic dentistry, and general restorative dentistry. His commitment to teaching and mentoring led him to join the residency as a faculty member and eventually become the program director. Under Dr. Hicklin’s guidance, the Prisma Residency became one of the most sought-after programs in the country. His passion for imparting knowledge in implant dentistry, complex dental surgeries, and advanced restorative dentistry has influenced and shaped the careers of over 100 dentists. Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Dr. Hicklin recently achieved Mastership status with the Academy of General Dentistry—an award earned by less than 2% of all dentists in the country.
