About Dr. Dennis Calvano

Growing up in Lake Ronkonkoma, New York, Dennis Calvano knew he wanted a career that would enable him to help people lead healthy and happy lives. Shortly after graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman which enabled him to work in and gain experience in various areas of health care. After deciding on a career in dentistry and receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy. He then headed back east to Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia to earn his Doctorate of Dental Medicine.Dr. Calvano began his dental career in the U.S. Navy where he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency in July of 2000 at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina. He spent the next three years as part of the 2nd Dental Battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During his time with the Marines, Dr. Calvano was proud to be deployed to the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean, and Afghanistan with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2007, Dr. Calvano earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). To achieve this honor, dentists must take more than 500 hours of educational courses in various areas of dentistry and must pass a rigorous exam. Dr. Calvano is one of only 7 percent of AGD dentists who have earned an AGD Fellowship. In 2011, Dr. Calvano completed an extensive continuing education series in orthodontics with Progressive Orthodontic Seminars. When he’s not helping patients in the office, Dr. Calvano enjoys spending time with his wife Sandra and their two children, exploring the local beauty of Virginia and traveling abroad to see the sights.
