About Dr. Jerry Hu

Dr. Jerry Hu, DDS, grew up in Soldotna, Alaska, on the Kenai Peninsula. He graduated from Soldotna High School in 1991 with numerous local, state, and national scholarships and was admitted to the competitive Preferred Admissions Program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Having known since middle school that he wanted to become a dentist, Dr. Hu completed both his bachelor's and doctoral degrees by age 24. While at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Dr. Hu received research recognition for his study, “Searching for Practical Methods to Monitor Streptococcus mutans Levels,” conducted under Dr. Walter J. Loesche, former President of the International and American Associations for Dental Research. A true Alaskan at heart, Dr. Hu enjoys hiking, fishing, biking, and winter sports. He also earned a black belt in Karate from Okamoto's Jinen Ryu Karate. Because of his strong connection to Alaska, he returned home after graduation and began practicing dentistry in 1998, taking over the well-known and respected practice of Dr. Calvin Fair. Throughout his career, Dr. Hu has pursued advanced training through the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). He has earned numerous Fellowships, Masterships, and Board certifications and has published peer-reviewed research in the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, Journal of Dental Sleep Medicine, Dental Sleep Practice, and other professional publications. In 2017, Dr. Hu became the first full-time dentist in Alaska to earn Board certification in Dental Sleep Medicine as a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. He later became Alaska's first Triple Boarded dentist, earning Diplomate status with the ABDSM, ASBA, and ACSDD.
