“It was a different dental office experience for what I consider typical but I think this may be the new normal for new patients. I was in the office for over 2 1/2 hours for what was supposed to be an initial exam, X-rays and cleaning. I chose this doctor because she is the only one within 30 miles of me that participates with my Dental insurance plan.
I liked the dentist, the dental assistant and the front desk staff. I was very disappointed in the hygienists who took care of me. One in particular was openly critical of the assistant while I was in the chair. She told her she and the rest of them needed to start including tooth numbers when they charted. The assistant said she wasn’t aware and the hygienist barked back at her and made it sound like all of the assistants were idiots. I imagine that the staff at this office have a lot of unkind nicknames for this hygienist. I’m going to look into different dental insurance so I can find a new provider, but not because of the dentist. ”

About Dr. Melissa Colon
Dr. Colon was born in Passaic, NJ where she lived for most of her life. While attending high school she took advantage of the work-study program and worked as a dental assistant at an office in Passaic. While working at the office, she knew that she wanted to pursue a career in dentistry.
Education:
After graduating high school in 1998, Dr. Colon started her path toward becoming a dentist at Montclair State University. She was fortunate to be one of the first students to be a part of the combined, 8 year, BS/DMD program that afforded her admission to New Jersey Dental School in her junior year.
Continuing Education, Certifications, and Awards:
After graduating from MSU in 2002, Dr. Colon continued on to UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School where she attained her degree in dental medicine in May of 2006. She then chose to continue her dental career with an extra year of post-doctoral education at the Veterans Hospital in Miami.
