About Dr. Richard Shin

DR. Richard H. Shin, DDS Specialist in periodontal disease, gum disease, and dental implants/ Certified LANAP Specialist. Dr. Shin completed his DDS Degree at New York University, College of Dentistry. He later discovered a passion for dental surgery while completing a general practice residency at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, and Downstate Medical Center. He pursued a specialty program at NYU, achieving board certification in Periodontics and Dental Implantology in 2003. He opened his first practice in 2003 and named it Alpine Periodontics as a tribute to his collegiate athletic career as an alpine skier at the University of Rochester. Dr. Shin lives in Tenafly, N.J. with his wife Hanna and their two children. Dr. Shin is proud to be a clinical assistant professor in the post-graduate periodontal program at NYU College of Dentistry where he has been able to mentor the next generation of periodontists. Through his involvement in his church, Dr. Shin has been able to volunteer time for various short-term medical missions to South America. Dr. Shin enjoys spending time with his family, practicing Tae Kwon Do (Master Degree Black Belt), swimming, and playing golf in his free time. Dr. Shin believes in a conservative approach to periodontics and aims to save teeth by achieving and maintaining oral health. By implementing state-of-the-art technologies, Alpine Periodontics can provide individualized treatment options to meet the needs of each patient. The best part of Dr. Shin’s dental career has always been his relationships with his outstanding staff, wonderful patients and referring dentists.
