Dr. Shawn Hallett brings together a love for science and a passion for people in everything he does. His early fascination with how the body heals and develops led him to a two-year research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Center for Regenerative Medicine, where he explored the genetic roots of orofacial clefts. Blending his curiosity for research with his dedication to hands-on patient care, Dr. Hallett went on to complete both his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and PhD in Oral Health Sciences at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. His doctoral work focused on how bone and cartilage cells develop and communicate during craniofacial growth—research that’s been published in respected journals like Nature Communications, eLife, Bone Research, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Throughout his career, Dr. Hallett has shared his findings on stages across the country and abroad, receiving numerous honors, including the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award and recognition from both the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the American Dental Association. Beyond his academic and clinical achievements, he’s passionate about mentorship and community service—whether that’s guiding students through the National Student Research Group, leading workshops on communication and leadership, or volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
