About Dr. Youngjae Sung

Dr. Youngjae Sung is a board-certified orthodontist with the American Board of Orthodontics, and she is passionate about helping patients feel confident with their smiles. She was born in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. She attended New York University for her undergraduate studies, and from there, she moved across the country to earn her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her love for creating beautiful, healthy smiles led her to the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), where she completed her Orthodontics Certificate and Master of Science (MS). Now, she’s thrilled to be part of the Staten Island Dental Group team and continue doing what she loves most! Throughout her education, Dr. Sung developed a love for research and was honored with several awards. While at UCLA, she received the AADR (American Association of Dental Research) Travel Grant and had the chance to present her work internationally. At UIC, she earned the AAO (American Association of Orthodontists) Research Aid Award for her thesis on the genetic factors that influence jaw and tooth development. Dr. Sung believes that patient education is a huge part of great orthodontic care and ensures that patients understand and are happy with every step of their treatment. Giving back to the community has also been important to her—from teaching dental hygiene to elementary school students across Los Angeles, to leading health education workshops for New York City high schoolers. As someone who wore braces for five years herself, Dr. Sung truly understands what her patients are going through. She’s always happy to answer questions, share advice, and help each person feel confident about their treatment journey.
