I am a Board-Certified Adult and Child Psychiatrist with postgraduate training at the University of Kentucky and more than 15 years of experience in academic psychiatry, inpatient and outpatient clinical care, research, and administration. I have also helped develop Oliver Winston Behavioral Urgent Care to improve access to mental health services in the Lexington community.
Through my experience, I have seen firsthand how important timely access to compassionate, high-quality mental health care can be. I would be privileged to work with you to better understand your concerns and develop a treatment plan focused on improving your health, well-being, and quality of life.
I am a Board-certified Adult and Child Psychiatrist with post graduate training at the University of Kentucky and continue to work in Lexington, KY. I have over 15 years of experience in academic psychiatry, inpatient/ outpatient clinical work, research and administration, including helping create Oliver Winston Behavioral Urgent Care to serve this area.
Through my experiences, I have learned how important access to care is for mental health and worked towards addressing the need. What should a new client know about working with you?
Your care with Dr. Abner Rayapati is designed to be personalized, collaborative, and focused on understanding the whole person—not just the symptoms.
Your first step will be a comprehensive evaluation where Dr. Rayapati will review your concerns, medical and behavioral health history, current symptoms, medications, and treatment goals. This allows him to develop a clear understanding of your individual needs.
Based on your evaluation and assessment results, Dr. Rayapati will discuss his findings with you and work with you to develop an individualized course of care. Your treatment plan may include medication management, therapeutic recommendations, lifestyle or wellness strategies, referrals, or other appropriate services based on your specific needs.
Throughout your care, Dr. Rayapati will monitor your progress, discuss how you are responding to treatment, and make adjustments when appropriate. Follow-up visits provide an opportunity to address changes in symptoms, medication effectiveness or side effects, and any concerns or questions you may have.
Most importantly, your care is a collaborative process. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, share your goals and preferences, and actively participate in decisions about your treatment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
Your care journey begins with a virtual assessment designed to gather information about your current needs, concerns, and goals. During this appointment, your provider will collect the information needed to better understand your individual situation.
Following your assessment, you will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment to review your assessment report with your provider. During this visit, your provider will discuss the results with you, answer your questions, and explain what the findings mean for your care.
Using the information from your assessment and your discussion with your provider, a personalized course of care will be developed based on your individual needs and goals. Your provider will work with you to determine appropriate next steps and recommendations.
Our goal is to make the process simple, informative, and centered around you—giving you the opportunity to understand your results and participate in developing a care plan that is right for you.
