“ Dr. Raff is an accomplished scientist and observer of human behavior. He brings a mult-schooled approach to his practice. His qualifications and skill set (from my research) make him good fit for my case. The style fit cannot be assessed from one consultation so willing to try a second. He did an adequate adjustment to my communication style so we could cover large amount of data in one session.”

Getting to know Dr. Adam Raff

Dr. Raff is a compassionate and experienced physician, whose clinical expertise has its roots in numerous sources, ranging from his studio background in the fine arts to the rigorous psychiatric residencies (adult and forensic) at NYU-Bellevue, additional training in treating adolescents, and his psychoanalytic training at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. First and foremost, Dr. Raff develops working relationships with his patients based on trust and a desire to help the patient move forward from a particular problem. Working with the patient to identify an issue, understand why he/she is “stuck” in a particular way, and the myriad of factors that contribute to it are all crucial aspects of the process. Treatment may involve talk therapy, psycho-pharmacology, and psychoanalysis or a combination of each. Dr. Raff also has an experience in treating conditions of addiction and substance abuse. For those individuals struggling with opiate addiction, Dr. Raff carries certification in the prescription of Buprenorphine (Suboxone). Reminder: I am an out of network provider and do not accept any form of commercial insurance, Medicaid or Medicare. I provide all my patients with a superbill that they can submit to their insurance carriers for possible reimbursement. Payment is expected at the time of the consultation, through check or credit card, and for ongoing treatment it is on a monthly basis. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance otherwise a full fee is charged. All appointments through Zocdoc must be confirmed by Dr. Raff via telephone. Despite what is on the internet, Dr. Raff does not participate in any insurance program

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Consultation- Generally, a consultation is approximately 1-3 meetings, with the initial meeting lasting an hour as a comprehensive interview. During the course of the consultation phase, and only with permission, I am speaking with any other collateral sources of information such as other therapists, physicians or family members. I am also potentially reviewing any documentation such as medical records, reports or testing in order to prepare a final diagnostic formulation and treatment plan. Psychotherapy- Generally, psychotherapy sessions are, at a minimum, once weekly for 45 minutes. My backround and training is rooted in a psychoanaltic model. That said, I recognize that people's needs and minds are complex and my overall approach tends to draw on a range of approaches. In a session, I think of myself as proactive and engaged with my patients. Psychopharmacological Treatment- Psychopharmacological sessions also vary depending on the individual’s condition and relevant clinical demands. In general, for medication management maintenance, individuals are scheduled anywhere from every 1-3 months.

Cancelled Zocdoc appointment and rescheduled with me privately. Unclear communicator and very focused on payment over actual concern for patient.
Dr Raff is considerate, friendly, professional, thorough, helpful, and clearly very good at what he does. He put me at ease straight-away and listened non-judgmentally.
    Excellent in all ways
Appointments were fine, but the billing is a nightmare which is why I had to switch providers. Took many follow up emails to get correct receipts for appointments and I was routinely billed for appointments that I had already paid at time of service. Do not see this provider if you need timely, accurate receipts.
    Smart, perceptive - terrific

Dr. Raff is super smart. He has a great way of asking probing questions and then making sense of my answers in ways I couldn't have on my own or with other psychiatrists. He is great to have to talk with
