During my clinical orientation as a student RN, I cared for a very disturbed psychotic patient who was out of touch with reality. This patient met me months later, recognized me, and remembered my care to him while inpatient and has recovered. I took care of another schizophrenic patient as an RN who had been mute for a long time. The first word the patient said was my name because of the care and support I offered. I decided to get the highest education and skill necessary for me to give access and compassionate care to people and prevent human suffering and limitation caused by mental illness.
