Adesuwa Obasogie, NP

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
KS
Hi there, I'm Adesuwa! I am a dedicated board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with over 2 years of experience based in the greater Kansas City area in the state of Missouri, providing comprehensive mental health care to diverse patient populations via telehealth Zoom from the comfort of their homes. My focus I work with patients aged 18 and above, treating anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). My approach My approach to mental health care is providing Individualized care because every patient's needs are different. This is why it is essential and paramount that the care provided to the patients is individualized based on their needs at the time. My communication style My communication styles include being calm, concise, and respectful. I want my clients to understand what I’m saying and to feel comfortable entrusting their mental health care to me. These skills are paramount to my practice: active listening, critical thinking, adaptability, non-judgmental, and patience. My journey to mental healthcare As someone who was born and raised in Nigeria, a 3rd-word country where mental health has its highest stigma, where one is ashamed to seek treatment, a country where, when a family member is facing mental health challenges, instead of seeking treatment, they hide it due to the stigma attached to mental health. My goals for you My approach to goal setting: first to build a strong and good rapport with my patient and establish trust, and then identify the patient’s goal for seeking treatment. When the patient feels comfortable with a provider, they are able to share their need and goals for seeking treatment. Our first session My expectation from our first session together is to build a strong rapport and make the patient feel comfortable and not worry about the stigma that is attached to mental health.
