About Dr. Afshin Razi

Dr. Razi's surgical practice focuses on diagnosing and treating spinal disorders in adults and adolescents. His interests include degenerative diseases of the back and neck (disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis); pediatric and adult deformities (scoliosis, kyphosis); and spinal fractures, including compression fractures and tumors. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, completed his internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and residencies in Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center and NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Razi has participated in numerous spine-related research projects and authored several book chapters and scientific articles. Before becoming Vice Chair and Residency Program Director of Orthopedics at Maimonides, he was Associate Director of the Residency Program. He is actively involved in clinical and resident-educational research, frequently lecturing and publishing. He is currently co-editing a textbook on Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fracture. He served 15 years as faculty and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Spine Surgery Section, at NYU Langone Medical Center (formerly Hospital for Joint Diseases), and was a partner in Madison Avenue Orthopaedic Associates PC. Dr. Razi continues treating a broad range of spinal disorders through the comprehensive program at the Maimonides Spine Center. His professional memberships include: Emerging Leaders, AOA (2014–present); American Orthopaedic Association (2013–present); Council of Orthopaedic Residency Directors (2011–present); Brooklyn Orthopaedic Society (2010–present); Candidate Member, Scoliosis Research Society (2010–present); American Board of Medical Specialties (2005–present); and Fellow, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (2005–present).
