About Dr. Akinbola Ajayi-Obe

I was raised in Yorubaland, West Africa, where, with the help of my origin soil, I was inspired to become a physician. After six years as a hospitalist, I decided to transition into Primary Care, given the huge need in the underserved community, as evidenced by hospital admissions for poorly managed chronic illnesses. Of concern, Primary Care practices, which serve as a vital community service, are losing essential resources, including sound communal ideologies and cohesiveness. In addition to following the guidelines of the American Medical Association in treating illness, we believe it is crucial to educate patients on alternative and complementary outlooks toward their health. Our approach stems from the IFA philosophy used by the Yoruba people. It addresses all three aspects of human life—physical, economical, and spiritual (neuropsychology)—suggesting ways to live a more fulfilling life. More importantly, we encourage the involvement of immediate community members in our patients’ lives, following the adage, “Healthy communities foster healthier residents.” I am board-certified in Internal Medicine, with specialization in Hepatology and Obesity Medicine. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine, completed an internship in Family Medicine at Louisiana State University, and a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona.
