Getting to know Dr. Alana Atchison

Dr. Alana Atchison is a Board-Certified Clinical Psychologist who specializes in treating trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. She earned her PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Adler University, holds a Master's in General Psychology from Capella University, and completed her Bachelor's degree at Chicago State University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m an integrative therapist and use three main approaches to help clients achieve their goals. I start with a Person-Centered approach, guiding clients to live more authentically and align with who they truly are. I also believe our early experiences shape us, so I incorporate Psychodynamic techniques to explore how childhood may be influencing present-day challenges. Finally, I use CBT strategies to gently challenge unhelpful thought patterns and support clients in actively working toward their goals. Overall, I’m engaged and collaborative in session, and I strive to walk alongside each client on their healing journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You can expect me to take an active role in each session. I usually start by asking what’s on your mind and what you'd like to focus on that day. From there, I often get into a flow—asking questions, exploring patterns, and trying to connect current struggles to deeper roots or past experiences. I’m always working to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface. Along the way, I offer tools, resources, suggestions, and support to help you move forward with more clarity, insight, and confidence.
